Who is eligible to vote? Who can exercise that right?
Voting is one way to build individual and collective power to make systemic change.
Who can volunteer? We ask all volunteers to maintain strict non-partisanship, to respect voters' privacy and the 501(c)3 status of our community partners. We also ask volunteers to be fully vaccinated and boosted, and agree to follow COVID-19 precautions to help keep our community safe.
This virtual training session will cover WA State laws about who is eligible to vote, including citizens with past felony convictions, people without a "traditional home address" and information for future voters aged 16 and 17. We will discuss how to remove barriers that keep people experiencing homelessness from participating in our democracy, how to take people's experiences of trauma into account when volunteering, and more.
The November General Election is on Tuesday November 8th, 2022. We would appreciate volunteers to commit to at least two shifts (2-3 hours each) between the training and the election. Voter outreach opportunities are around King County, with day and evening, weekday and weekend shifts in various community settings (outdoors or indoors). Examples include: community meals, libraries, shelter and housing programs, hygiene or day centers; mobile or pop-up services. We warmly encourage regular (weekly or monthly) volunteers!
If you have previously volunteered with us, this will be a refresher, a chance to connect and share, and get current updates.
