Thanks to our collective advocacy, Seattle City Council passed a 2024 budget that included inflation and wage adjustments for ALL homelessness services funded by the city. Take action and say THANK YOU to your Seattle City Councilmembers for adding $3 million to make sure ALL homelessness services in the city can keep up with inflation and raise wages.

King County's budget process is still underway - urge your elected representatives on the King County Council to maintain homelessness services in their 2024 budgets - that means full inflation and wage adjustments for the entire continuum of care!

Thanks to our collective advocacy, and the leadership of Councilmembers Mosqueda, Herbold, Lewis, Strauss, and Sawant we've added $3 MILLION to the budget for homelessness services. This will make sure that homelessness service providers - including those that were excluded from inflation and wage adjustments in the Mayor's proposed budget - can sustain their vital services to the community, and raise wages for their essential workers.

Additional funding is needed in the County budget to maintain homelessness services.

The 2024 County budget does not include ANY new inflation or wage adjustments for homelessness services. Last year, our collective advocacy pushed the County Council to add $5 million for homelessness services. Your advocacy is needed to add funding to stabilize homelessness services and make sure that providers are treated fairly - no matter if their contract comes from Seattle or the County.

I live in your district, and I write to urge you to vote to ensure King County MATCHES the Seattle investments in homeless services staff and contracted agencies in King County's 2024 budget. Please make sure that ALL homeless services and related housing providers in King County see contract increases that allow them to keep up with the 7.5% inflation, and can increase wages above that. Last year, Executive Constantine and King County Councilmembers worked to provide a one-time contract enhancement to meet the dramatic additional costs due to inflation and assist contractors in raising staff wages. This was essential and helpful, and we need King County to do the same this year. Failure to adjust contracts to keep up with costs of providing this work will result in reduced services for King County residents who need shelter, housing, and related services. We can't afford to lose ANY capacity, especially when there are so many more King County residents who need these life-saving services that the current system is funded or set up to care for. Seattle Mayor Harrell and Council Budget Chair Mosqueda are working to ensure that a 7.5% inflation adjustment and 2% wage increase cover human services contracts, including ALL contracts, even those now administered through KCRHA. King County should do the same. This is the bare minimum needed to maintain current services, and does not bring us to the crucial need for additional capacity. I urge you to: 1. Add 7.5% inflation adjustments to all homeless service and housing contracts funded by the County, including contracts held by KCRHA and those held in DCHS. 2. Add a 2% wage adjustment for homelessness service providers, to make sure they can hire and retain trained staff. I understand that the County is facing deep cuts in general fund, and that most of these will affect public health and human services.I urge you to consider how the county will position itself to maintain its commitment to serve residents in future. I would appreciate a reply to this message. Thank you.
