Helping people experiencing homelessness apply for and maintain SSI/SSDI benefits
Presenters
Marcos Zuñiga, Directing Attorney, Disabled Advocacy Project – Seattle Community Law Center
Megan Monasmith, Social Service Trainer – Washington State Department of Social and Health Services
This training is geared towards case managers for people experiencing homelessness – both new case managers as well as experienced providers who have questions and would like additional support in navigating the SSI/SSDI system.
This training will go in-depth about strategies you can use to assist people who are experiencing homelessness successfully navigate the SSI & SSDI application process, and how to troubleshoot issues for people who already have SSI/SSDI benefits. You will learn the ins and outs of working with the Social Security Administration, what you can do as a case manager to help your client with this process, and when to contact an attorney. This will be a practical, hands-on training. Participants will come away with tangible action steps and additional resources to ensure that people who are experiencing homelessness are not at a disadvantage when applying or qualifying for SSI/SSDI.
Coffee and light refreshments will be provided. Street parking is free in the neighborhood. The 7 bus route stops within a few blocks of the 2100 Building.
Cost: Free to staff at organizations that are current members of the Coalition on Homelessness, or $40 per person.
Wait, there’s a cost for this training? I thought Coalition trainings were all free?
